Sunshine Ace Hardware’s store location in Golden Gate was honored by Collier County for its exemplary waste reduction and recycling programs.

Collier County’s Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) recognizes the recycling efforts of local businesses that implement innovative recycling programs exceeding minimum requirements of the county’s recycling ordinance.

Outside of standard cardboard and plastic recycling efforts, Sunshine Ace Hardware in Golden Gate also was recognized for:

  • Donating unused salt, soil, mulch, paint, birdseed and pet food to help community causes while also preserving valuable landfill space.
  • Switching to reusable OptiPack containers to store products instead of pallets and thin-film plastics.
  • Implementing fishing line and oil recycling programs to keep area waterways pristine.

The Board of County Commissioners issued a formal proclamation recognizing Sunshine Ace for contributing to “the greater good of Collier County by advocating the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ message, thereby helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County landfill.”

Sunshine Ace is one of Florida’s largest family-owned home improvement retailers with locations in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Manatee and Pinellas counties. The Naples-based company opened its Golden Gate store in 1984. Today, the store, located at 11673 Collier Blvd., is managed by Jason Rief and features a wide selection of hardware, power tools, lawn and garden supplies, clothing and sporting goods. The store has professionally staffed paint, fishing and grilling departments, as well as a Helpful Hub that provides services like key cutting, glass cutting, screen repair, blade sharpening and paint color matching.
